The gorgeous new Oracle Club

A labor of love.

The creators of Oracle live upstairs. A writer and a painter, they thought it would be a shame to let the incredible commercial space change hands from one electrician to another.

So they maxed out their credit cards and built this place with vintage banquettes, leather club chairs, what may possibly be Marcel Proust’s actual library, an upright saloon piano, one of the most astonishing cutout concrete floors and a hand painted checkered floor. There might be taxidermy. It looks beautiful.

And their idea for it is it’s a private club. It costs about what a gym costs and you get to sit in the salon, or use the library as your writing studio, or use the studio to make art. Depending on your membership. A sophisticated and stylish draw that might alienate the “I work in midtown” crowd or the veteran LIC “was better the way it used to be” contingents.

But along with some tasteful outposts like Breadbox and East of East and Yoga Room nearby, or Dutch Kills or M Wells in the food department, Oracle is one of the coolest new things to come to LIC.
