New York City and Long Island are under a high wind warning overnight into Saturday morning.
Damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible. And the rest of the tri-state is under a wind advisory for the same period, with expected wind gusts to near 50 mph.
The highest winds will be felt after midnight through about 2 p.m. Saturday. Scattered power outages are possible, and motorists might see speed restrictions on elevated roadways and bridges. Property owners are urged to secure loose items.
After a week of mild temps, Friday marked a harsh return to winter, starting out with snowy conditions causing problems in the Mid-Hudson Valley through the morning.

About a dozen districts in the Kingston and Poughkeepsie areas closed schools Friday or delayed openings by two hours after overnight snow caused icy road conditions.
State police say a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the southbound side of the Thruway around 4:15 a.m. in the Orange County town of Newburgh.
