At a warehouse in Long Island City, Queens, some of the city’s most sought-after juices get squeezed by BluePrint, a five-year old company.
BluePrint is best known for its “cleanse,” a nutrient-packed, organic juice-only diet designed for those who want to give their bodies a break. Those who sign up for the cleanse get six numbered bottles delivered to the door.
The liquid meals range from pineapple-mint, to cayenne-spiked lemonade, to a purple apple, carrot and beet blend, to cashew nut milk for dessert.
The highlight of every six-pack is a lovely emerald drink, made with lettuce, ginger, parsley and so many vegetables it is practically salad.
“It kind of covers all the bases. It’s six pounds of produce in one bottle. It’s more than people consume sometimes over the course of a week. And you’re doing that several times throughout the day,” says BluePrint co-founder Zoe Sakoutis.
“We have people who are really just looking to kind of kick-start a new healthy program, healthy regimen. We have people gearing up for a big event and want to maybe drop a few pounds or just sort of get back on track. We have people that are business diners and people who travel eat out frequently and just want to reset,” says BluePrint co-founder Erica Huss.
Whether or not that sounds good to you, most people agree BluePrint’s juices taste great, with a flavor as bright as their color.
BluePrint now sells its juices just as juices. They produce 80,000 bottles per week, some headed to those on the cleanse, and some to local supermarkets. Part of their widespread success is because they use fresh fruits and vegetables that are delivered every single day.
At the end of the day, they also create 22 tubs a day of some of the most elegant compost we’ve ever seen.
