WESTPORT, Conn. – There’s no need to travel to New York City to see a show this weekend. “Guys and Dolls” will be playing at Coleytown Middle School Friday and Saturday, and “Alice in Wonderland” takes the stage Friday through Sunday at Bedford Middle School. Here’s a look at some other events happening in Westport over the next three days.
Friday, March 30
▪ 6-8 p.m.: The 8th annual SOLOS Exhibition opens tonight at the Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Ave., with a special reception. The exhibit celebrates the artistic talent and diversity of member artists June Ahrens of New Canaan; Charles Geiger of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Ellen Hackl Fagan of New York; Arcady Kotle of Long Island City, N.Y.; Don Leeds of Weston; Timothy Pyle of Fairfield; and Westporters Kraemer Sims Becker and Caroyln Rie. The exhibit will run through June 30. Gallery hours are Monday- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
▪ 7:30 p.m.: The stage at Bedford Middle School, 88 North Ave., will be transformed in to a “wonderland” this weekend for the sixth-grade production of Lewis Carroll’s classic “Alice in Wonderland.” Other performances are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and students. Children 3 and under are free.
Saturday, March 31
▪ 2:30 p.m.: Bring the kids to Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane, for kite-making day. Kids will be able to create their own kites and test them out. Admission to Earthplace is free for members; $7 for adults and children over 12, and $5 for seniors and children under 12. There is a $2 material fee, in addition to admission.
▪ 1 p.m. 7 p.m.: Catch the classic Broadway musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” at Coleytown Middle School, 255 North Ave., before it’s gone. Final performances are set for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 and will be available for purchase at the door 30 minutes before show time.
Sunday, April 1
▪ 11 a.m.: Walk or run to help raise funds to support research, education, awareness and innovative treatments for Lyme and tick-borne diseases during the Walk to Turn the Corner on Lyme at Sherwood Island State Park. Visit the official event website to register or for more information.
▪ 5-6:30 p.m.: Learn about the dangers of genetically modified organisms in your food during a forum hosted by the Westport Farmers’ Market, Wakeman Town Farm and Right to Know CT. A panel will educate guests about GMOs, their health risks and how to avoid them. Representatives Kim Fawcett and Jonathan Steinberg will share their views on the importance of GMO labeling.
