MTA chairman says he’s like to see 7 train expansion
The head of the MTA said today he would like to see the 7 train extend further south into Chelsea and over to the West Side Highway. Joseph Lhota said he supports the 7 south-western expansion because that area of the city could use more subways. “I’d like to see the 7 train in other parts of New York City,” he said at the Regional Plan Association’s annual transportation conference. He said he’d like the 7 – currently being extended to 34 and 11th Avenue – to someday snake down to 23rd Street and the West Side Highway. Read More: New York Post

Tigers’ Delmon Young Charged With Hate Crime Assault In Midtown Brawl
Detroit Tigers outfielder Delmon Young is facing charges of assault as a hate crime and harassment after he was arrested early Friday morning at a Midtown hotel. Sources say Young was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m. following an incident at the Hilton New York on Sixth Avenue. Young allegedly hit two people who were trying to give a homeless man money outside the hotel while yelling slurs about Jews. Read More: NY1
Former Liu Campaign Treasurer Indicted In Straw Donor Scheme
A former campaign treasurer for City Comptroller John Liu has been indicted on charges related to her alleged involvement in a straw donor scheme, the U.S. Attorney’s office announced Friday. Jenny Hou, 25, was arrested back in February for allegedly attempting to get over-the-limit campaign donations to Liu’s potential 2013 mayoral campaign. According to the indictment, Hou is alleged to have worked with fundraisers for Liu to use straw donors to bring in illegal donations. Hou had been a volunteer for Liu’s 2009 race for city comptroller. Read More: NY1
Long Island City developer to build 7-story commercial complex at 30-30 Northern Blvd
Score one more for Long Island City and its transformation from gritty factory town into a live, work and play neighborhood. A long vacant building at 30-30 Northern Blvd., now just a concrete shell, will become a seven-story commercial complex by this time next year, according to the project’s developer. Construction on new Kosciuszko Bridge to begin in 2013, a year ahead of schedule
Commuters weary of the all-too-familiar sight of the sea of brake lights atop the Kosciuszko Bridge can rejoice. Construction on a new bridge is now expected to begin in spring 2013 — a year ahead of schedule, thanks to $460 million made available for the job by Gov. Cuomo’s New York Work initiative. The 73-year-old bridge, which carries the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway over the Newtown Creek, qualified for the money in part because it is on the state’s “deficient bridge” list. Read More: Daily News
