Video shows thug readying shotgun before robbery
A shotgun toting thug was caught on dramatic video ratcheting a shell into the chamber of his weapon before he and his partner in crime robbed two men in Woodside, Queens, police said. The hooded goon can be seen retrieving the weapon from behind a bin located in front of a store on Broadway, near 64th Street, on April 21 about 6 a.m. before moving beyond the camera’s field of vision. The thugs then approached two men, 32 and 25, pointed the shotgun at them and stole their wallets, money, keys, cell phones and jewelry, cops said. Read More: New York Post
Manhole lids hot item for thieves in outer boros
Roving gangs of thieves are stealing manhole covers from the streets of Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx — prying up the 320-pound, cast-iron lids and hauling them off to scrap yards. The payoff: a lousy $75. More than 30 of the Con Ed covers have vanished since early March, with thieves “dressed in utility apparel” lifting them with car jacks and loading them onto pickup trucks.Sources said they sell the metal to shady scrap yards. Pedestrian and cycle path slated for western Queens waterfront
The first phase of a bike and pedestrian trail that will connect waterfront parks in western Queens is slated to be completed this fall. The 10.6-mile Queens East River and North Shore Greenway will eventually run from Long Island City to Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. The first phase will link Queensbridge Park, in Long Island City, to Ralph Demarco Park in Astoria. “It’s an opportunity for people that want to take advantage of cycling around the city,” Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski said Thursday. “It just makes our whole city [more] user-friendly.” Read More: Daily News
Two Queens priests named auxillary bishops for Diocese of Brooklyn
Two long-time Queens Catholic priests have ascended up the church’s ranks. Msgr. Raymond Chappetto and Msgr. Paul Sanchez were named auxiliary bishops of the Diocese of Brooklyn by Pope Benedict XVI, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano announced in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. The Diocese serves 1.4 million Catholics in both Brooklyn and Queens. The priests will be ordained at Our Lady of Angels R.C. Church in Brooklyn on July 11. Read More: Daily News
