U.S. News World Report last week named the Baccalaureate School for Global Education the best high school in New York state.
The school, located in a renovated factory at 34-12 36th Ave. in the Dutch Kills section of Long Island City, offers classes in grades seven through 12.
U.S. News World Report also ranked the Baccalaureate School No. 21 in the country in the national list of best high schools. Queens H.S. for the Sciences at York College was ranked No. 52 in the national list and Townsend Harris ranked at No. 53.
The Baccalaureate School for Global Education is part of the Swiss nonprofit educational foundation, International Baccalaureate. The school offers high-quality education and spans multiple age groups to offer students continuous education with international mindedness and a positive attitude toward learning, a spokesperson for International Baccalaureate said in an e-mail statement.
Through a curriculum based on the Regents, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams to earn college credits, students at the Long Island City school were ranked as 100 percent proficient in both English and math – and they boast a College Readiness Index of 100.0, U.S. News World Report said.
Students at the Queens H.S. for the Sciences at York College were ranked at 100 percent proficient in math and 99 percent proficient in English, with a College Readiness Index of 87.0, according to U.S. News World Report.
Students at Townsend Harris H.S. were also ranked as 100 percent proficient in math and English, with a College Readiness Index of 86.8, U.S. News World Report stated.
The three Queens schools were ranked ahead of the prestigious Stuyvesant H.S. in Manhattan, which ranked ninth in the report and The Bronx H.S. of Science, which came in at 10th place.
The Academy of American Studies in Long Island City was ranked at No. 49 and Benjamin N. Cardozo H.S. in Bayside was ranked at No. 83 in the list of the top 100 schools in the state.
