The Sunnyside Community Services Adult Day Program has been partnering with The Museum of Modern Art for over a year and the result is an exhibit of members’s works, titled “Meet Me at MoMA” on display through June 18.
The exhibit, which highlights works by people with dementia, opened June 5 with a reception.
Francisca Hernandez, of Woodside, who has been with the program for 10 years, and Claire Lepore, of Jackson Heights, a member for the past two, were among the! artists able to attend the reception.
“It was very enlightening as to the involvement the museum has with regard to seniors and those with disabilities,” said Don Lepore, whose mother Claire has one of her work’s on display.
“Mom’s involvement in the center and such extra activities as museum visits go a long way to helping cope with her condition”, he said.
There are 10 artworks on display from 10 of the! Adult Day participants. Not all artists could attend the opening reception, but Elizabeth Gronke, program manager of Adult Day Services at SCS, was able to conduct a tour of the exhibit last! Saturday.
“It was one of the best experiences they all enjoyed together,” Gronke said.
The exhibition is on view through June 18 at the Museum of Modern Art’s Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, 54 West 54th St., and can be viewed free of charge.
