Some lawmakers and Queens residents say they’re fed up with the loud noise from idle Long Island Railroad trains.
Locomotives between 12 and 4 PM sit with their engines on near Borden Avenue in Long Island City, and residents say the trains create a lot of racket. State Senator Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) wants the LIRR to make a change. He says the community is going to push for reform until the noise is stopped.
“We’re going to be having additional correspondence with them, additional rallies at the location, and the community is organizing by the day. Hopefully, we’ll eventually get the attention of someone who can make a decision at the Long Island Railroad,” he said.
State Senator Gianaris is also concerned about the toxins which go into the air from leaving trains running in the early afternoon.
“These idling trains are also polluting the environment because they are sitting there churning away and burning the kind of fossil fuels that generate emissions,” he said.
The Long Island Railroad has not returned our request for comment.
Did these people complaining ever notice the ACTIVE RAIL YARD adjacent to these developments BEFORE moving in?
The stupidity of some people is astounding….
