The She-Devil Comedy Festival, which takes place from October 24-28, 2012, in New York City, seeks to honor and reward the artists that most personify The Art of Comedy, while celebrating and helping further the long tradition of women in comedy.
Created by the same people behind Laughing Skull and Laughing Devil festivals, the She-Devil Festival is combination competition/celebrity headliner event centered at the Laughing Devil with additional shows at Broadway Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, and more. The festival will also feature a private roof party, an art gallery party, museum tours, industry panels, and other events.
The She-Devil Comedy Festival features a 30-comedian first round followed by four quarter-final shows, two semi-final shows, and one final show. Comedy industry from all over the US and Canada will participate to help find, expose, and give work to some of today’s top emerging comedians.
In the first round, thirty comedians compete (performing 2 minutes each) and just eight move on to join the forty already selected for the quarter-finals. Forty-eight comedians compete in the quarter-finals which consist of four shows (twelve comedians per show, each performing five minutes). Four comedians from each show will move on to the next round.
Eight comedians compete in the semi-finals, and eight will also compete in the wild card. Each comedian performs eight minutes. Four move on from the semi-finals, and three move on from the wild card round. The finals pits the final seven comedians against each other, performing ten minutes each.
The winner gets at least $2000 (the prize package is growing as Festival sponsors are added) and paid work from various clubs – and the judges are all decision makers in the industry. The audiences will be filled with agents, managers, bookers, casting directors and more. All three bookers from The Late Show with David Letterman will be in attendance.
A portion of all proceeds go to support FORCE, a wonderful organization that educates and supports women on issues relating to BRCA, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer.
Be sure to register by August 1 at SheDevilFestival.com. Registration is only $20 if you register by July 22.
