The exotic East River oasis that is Roosevelt Island is now home to a seasonal, outdoor café called Pier NYC. But it’s not just for the lucky locals—the F train goes right there, or you can take the scenic route on the four-minute tram above the East River (swimmings always an option, too). It’s worth a trip; the views are spectacular and the food most satisfactory.
On the menu you’ll find an assortment of sophisticated bar foods, like oysters and seafood from chef David Santos (formerly of Per Se; Bouley), BBQ from Chef Josh Bowen at Long Island City’s John Brown Smokehouse, and sweets from AllyCakes NYC. We sampled some of the menu this week at a press preview, and can vouch for the crispy crabcake sliders (Panko encrusted lump crab patties with spicy mayo in a toasted potato roll) as well the barbecued items: the brisket, turkey and pork were equally succulent. And the beverage menu features a solid array of beer, wine and cocktails.
425 Main Street on the West Promenade, Roosevelt Island, (646) 648-2020 // Open Monday through Thursday noon to 10 p.m., and until 11 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
