There will be a controlled explosion in Brooklyn Thursday night, part of a staged stunt for the television series “Boardwalk Empire,” officials say.
FDNY and NYPD will be on hand to supervise the explosion in Greenpoint, set to happen between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on a private property at Commercial Street and Franklin Street.
Residents across the East River in Manhattan, between 23rd and 33rd streets, and in immediate neighboring areas like Long Island City, may see the explosion. They should not be alarmed.
The city has been seeing a boom in local television and production. Last year, the industry contributed $7.1 billion to the city’s economy last year, according to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
