On Saturday the venerable Queens contemporary art institution SculptureCenter will throw what might just be the artsiest block party this city has ever seen, featuring a series of activity tents manned by artists who have shown at the space. The LIC Block Party, which runs from noon to 5pm on Saturday, will include pom-pom making with Abby Walton and Travis Boyer, carnival-style games with Lior Shvil, balloon art with Ross Moreno, and more.
The Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will also be on hand to answer attendees’ legal questions, and the Clean Penny Service will clean your pennies, Free Style Art will recruit attendees’ help in assembling a temporary sculpture inspired by Long Island City’s architecture, and artist Jennifer Sullivan will be the MC for the day’s performance and music program.
In addition to those activities, the SculptureCenter block party will boast a food court stocked by local eateries, and an Artist Market where Ariel Dill, Guy Ben-Ari, Leah Wolff, Gil Yefman, Rona Yefman, and many others will sell their wares. The LIC Block Party takes place Saturday, September 8, 12-5pm, on Purves Street.
