Our Focus: Your Child
Imagine a K-8 school that reaches for the most advanced resources and methods available and implements them to suit your child’s unique learning style, temperament, and abilities.
• 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio
• Individualized learning plans
• Academic rigor, starting with the youngest years, combined with a whole-child orientation
• Affordable tuition
• Emphasis on community-building, the arts, environmental awareness, and healthful living
• Inspired location in an arts center in the heart of Long Island City
• 15-20 minute commute from many parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn
At QPS, a 5:1 student-to-teacher ratio enables us to know every child’s temperament, strengths, weaknesses, and interests, and thus to create personalized learning plans for them. The QPS approach challenges students academically in the core subject areas and helps them acquire the important skills of critical thinking, problem solving, and learning how to learn, as well as communication/interpersonal skills and self-management techniques. Our students step solidly onto the path of becoming motivated learners who EW driven by curiosity, a love of ideas, and a true appreciation for the arts. They are guided toward being empathetic, helpful people who enjoy working independently and in collaboration with others.
At half the cost of most private schools—made possible through generous subsidization from the Mechner Foundation—QPS is located in an arts center where artists, dancers, musicians, and entrepreneurs open their doors to us. Our community of professional educators and thoughtful parents believe deeply in providing children with an educational experience that is academically rigorous but that also includes social and emotional development, environmental awareness, and a commitment to healthful living.
QPS is located in the LIC Arts Center in Long Island City, accessible from Manhattan, and Brooklyn by the E/M/R/7/G trains. For more information, see our Web site (queenspaideiaschool.org) or send us an e-mail at
