Walter A. Scherber, 72, of Stroudsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.
He was the husband of Theresa (McEachern) Scherber. They had observed their 50th anniversary in February.
Born in Long Island City, N.Y., he was a son of the late William and Ann (Wyzsoczsanski) Scherber.
He had been a taxi driver in Queens, N.Y., for 10 years before retiring.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was of the Catholic faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Shiner of Bangor; a sister, Dorothy Robert of North Bellmore, N.Y.; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Frable, in 1998.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday, Oct. 4, at Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. Memorial services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dorothy Robert officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Gilbert Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, in care of Theresa Scherber, 6600 Route 209, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
