According to the New York Post on Nov. 8, New York City and Long Island will institute gas rationing beginning tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 9. The move is designed to ease the long lines at the gas pumps across the metro New York area.
After Superstorm Sandy, N.J. Gov. Chris Christie instituted an odd-even rationing system in the 13 counties hardest hit by that disaster in the Garden State. The measure caused gas lines to decrease from an average wait time of two hours to a time of 45 minutes. New York is expecting similar results.
And please don’t try to cheat. According to Mayor Bloomberg, switching license plates won’t do you any good. “The police can easily look at your registration,” he said, “so don’t try to be cute.”
“This is designed to let everybody have a fair a chance [to buy gas so] lines [are not] too oppressive.”
“We’ll keep it in for a while, [at least until] sometime next week … if you think about it, it’s not any great imposition once you get used to it so there’s no reason to take it out right away.”
New York and New Jersey residents started digging out from yesterday’s latest weather disaster after being hit with rain, sleet, snow and strong winds from a nor’easter, a little more than a week after Superstorm Sandy.
