[Update Below] Several people have been injured after there was a massive crane collapse in Long Island City this afternoon. FDNY says that the incident happened around 2:20 p.m. at a construction site located at 47-27 Center Boulevard in Queens. They say they are at the scene, but aren’t yet certain exactly how it collapsed. Initial reports state at least one person has been taken to the hospital with injuries, and multiple other people are trapped. Check out some Tweets below, and we’ll update as we learn more information.
Update: ABC is reporting that at least five people have been injured in the crane collapse; according to NBC reporter Tom Llamas, who is in a helicopter over the scene, “we can see at least one person being taken away in stretcher.”
WSJ reporter Michael Howard Saul notes that NY1 broke into Governor Cuomo’s State of State address to report about the collapse.
Update: NY1 is now reporting that at least nine people have been injured in the collapse. Police confirmed that multiple people had been injured, but couldn’t say exactly how many. As you can see in one of the photos above, at least one person was taken out on a stretcher. But police added that there were “no severe injuries.”
Update: According to FDNY, the scene is now under control. They tell us at least seven people were injured and at least three were taken to the hospital, but there were no life-threatening injuries. As the NY Times notes, the building where the collapse occurred is one of several luxury towers being developed by TF Cornerstone.
