Elizabeth Holtzman Backs Ben Kallos for City Council
(New York, N.Y.) Elizabeth Holtzman, former eight-year Congresswoman, Comptroller and Brooklyn D.A., endorsed Ben Kallos for City Council today in Manhattan’s District 5 (Upper East Side and Roosevelt Island). Holtzman, a legendary New York leader – the only woman ever elected to the Comptroller’s office, the only woman ever elected as District Attorney in New York City, and the youngest woman ever elected to U.S. Congress – cited Kallos’ record of government transparency, action and commitment to integrity and respect.
“We need to elect more leaders like Ben Kallos, who have a record of combatting corruption and fighting for women’s rights,” said Elizabeth Holtzman. “We as a city must stand up to the appalling culture of harassment in government.”
The endorsement comes on the heels of the National Organization for Women’s endorsement of Kallos for his strong gender equality platform.
As District Attorney, Holtzman introduced new strategies to prosecute rape. She also authored the Rape Privacy Act and helped improve access to breast cancer screenings.
“Elizabeth Holtzman’s endorsement is a crucial vote of confidence from one of the top leaders in New York City. As one of the most accomplished politicians in the city and a trailblazer for women’s rights, Elizabeth Holtzman is a leader we can trust who has fought corruption – from key work on the Watergate scandal and beyond,” said Kallos.
As the Executive Director of good government group Herrick’s Government Relations Practice, Holtzman has continued her commitment to fighting corruption at all levels of government.
Kallos has been the Executive Director of a leading good government group, attorney, Policy Director for Mark Green and the former Chief of Staff for Assembly Member Jonathan Bing. Learn more about his run for City Council District 5 at http://KallosForCouncil.com.
