Ricky’s, the costume and cosmetic chain, opened a temporary Long Island City location on Saturday.
The store, which will remain open until early November, is almost exclusively focusing on Halloween costumes. It is located at 5-27 50th Avenue (between 5th Street and Vernon Blvd) and is being operated by Long Island City resident Rich Parrott, who is the president of Ricky’s New York.
“I’m excited by this store,” said Rich Parrott. “This is a very kid centric neighborhood and there are not a lot of retail stores that focus on Halloween around here.”
Parrott said Ricky’s has been a participant in the LIC Flea Food and has been well received.
“We are a known entity in New York,” Parrott said. Ricky’s has been in operation for about 25 years and has 28 locations.
Parrott said that he aims to test the LIC market and introduce some of the company’s hair care and beauty supplies. If the Long Island City store does well, Parrott said Ricky’s might stay in the neighborhood long term.
The temporary store, however, offers party-goers plenty. It sells a massive supply of wigs, masks and costumes for people of all ages and sizes.
