The body of a 51-year-old Queens woman was recovered from the East River yesterday, after officials pulled her onto one of the piers at Long Island City’s Gantry Plaza State Park.
Police say that the woman, who was identified today as 51-year-old Judy Soo Hoo of Long Island City, was found in the water near 47th Road and Center Boulevard at around 10:12 a.m. Saturday. Fire officials pulled her out of the water, and she was declared dead at the scene. Police say she was fully clothed and wearing a blue jacket and grey pants, and there were no visible signs of trauma to her body.
A number of onlookers were reportedly gathered at the scene. “It’s just crazy. It’s the first nice day — fresh air, blue skies, a body washing up on shore,” LIC resident Zac Lochner told the Times Ledger.
The medical examiner’s office is currently investigating Soo Hoo’s cause of death.
