Assemblymember Catherine Nolan, chair of the state Assembly Education Committee went to Long Island City H.S. (LIC) to join in the celebration of their victory in keeping the school as a full, comprehensive high school. Nolan said, “Last year, I spoke out at a Panel for Educational Policy meeting against the Department of Education’s plan to co-locate another school in with Long Island City H.S. I would like to thank both Chancellor Carmen Farina and Mayor Bill de Blasio for listening to the community. Congratulations again to Principal Vivian Selenikas and her team. Future generations of local kids will continue to benefit from LIC’s award-winning Career and Technical Culinary Arts Program, its various sports teams, including the accomplishments of their Boys’ Gymnastics Team.
