Police have shot and killed a man in Queens after they say he shot a woman, who sources confirm is his daughter.
The incident occurred on 38th Street in Long Island City on Saturday.
Police say a man in his 80s called 9-1-1 saying he wanted to kill himself, and that he’d already shot his daughter and dog.
Officers responding to the scene say they found the man with what’s believed to be a shotgun and ordered him to put it down, but he then turned toward them. That’s when police shot and killed him.
Police found the shooter’s daughter, who sources say is in her 60s, with a gunshot wound to the head. She’s in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital.
The dog, a brown Yorkshire Terrier, is being treated by the ASPCA for a neck laceration. It is expected to survive.
The two officers were being treated for ringing in the ears.
A neighbor described the scene.
“The cop was just telling him, ‘Put down the gun, put down the gun,’ and then I guess he didn’t want to put down the gun,” said the neighbor.
