Police shot and killed a man in Queens Saturday after he shot and killed his daughter.
Authorities say an 86-year-old man called 911 saying and he that he had shot his daughter and dog with a 12 gauge shotgun, and that he wanted to kill himself.
Police responding to the scene on 38th Street in Long Island City found the man with the loaded shotgun and ordered him to put it down, but he turned the gun toward them, prompting officers to shoot and kill him.
Sources say the man’s daughter was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
Neighbors described the scene and the family.
“The cop was just telling him ‘put down the gun, put down the gun’ and then I guess he didn’t want to put down the gun,” said a neighbor. “I guess nothing happened and I heard like five shots.”
“She was a nice quiet lady,” said another neighbor of the woman who was killed. “I was shocked to hear this happened.”
The responding officers were taken to New York Hospital of Queens.
The dog, a brown Yorkshire Terrier, is being treated by the ASPCA for a neck laceration.
It is expected to survive.
