A much-ballyhooed Long Island City restaurant will bring new meaning to the term “steak and shake” this summer.
M. Wells Steakhouse, the latest offering from Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis of Montreal’s famed Au Pied de Cochon, is organizing an outdoor music festival at an empty lot adjacent to the six-month-old Crescent Street chop house.
The fresh air event will feature live music and movie screenings on the nearby lot, which is currently home to an installation by the Socrates Sculpture Park. But organizers say they are keeping mum on the details — at least for now.
The festival will be organized with help from real estate developer Rockrose Development Corp., which owns the former auto body garage that M. Wells now occupies as well as Linc LIC, a 42-story luxury residential tower across the street.
M. Wells Steakhouse owners will present their proposal at a Community Board 2 meeting Wednesday night, but workers toiling in the neighborhood Tuesday cheered the party plan.
“I wouldn’t mind it. I’ll probably go,” said Carl Bell, who works at a nearby fabrication company. “Who wouldn’t want to hear music during the day?”
