LIC-Artists is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization founded in Long Island City in 1985. Its original home from 1985-2008 was in a third floor loft space rented from the Romo Paper Factory, a building which was recently transformed into the Paper Factory Hotel. LIC-A organized the first Annual Open Studios in 1985 as part of its program to create art exhibitions and events open to the public, and promote Queens artists. It has a membership of more than 100 professional artists whose diversity of style reflects the diversity of Queens. LIC-A’s programs are made possible through the volunteer efforts of its professional artist members, and is supported by donations and grants from the Queens Council on the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts and others.
