A Long Island City gallery is hosting a special event on Thursday to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Studio J is featuring works of artist and illustrator Al Johnson, titled “Visual Healing,” and designed to help ease viewers’ troubles.
The exhibit is on display through Oct. 3 but visitors are invited to sit on specially-built benches and meditate from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, when the sounds and vibrations of a Chinese gong will provide “an opportunity for the viewer to relinquish anxieties and stress.”
Johnson, who counts abstract expressionist master Jackson Pollock among his influences, created colorful, dreamlike paintings.
He noted the studio, located at 11-11 44th Road, will give visitors an unspoiled view of the Tribute in Light — the two beams of light that shine where the World Trade Center once stood — from its rooftop.
Other groups around Queens are remembering the somber anniversary with ceremonies and events.
l The Bayside Hills Civic Association is holding its annual 9/11 Ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Memorial Garden, Bell Blvd. and the Horace Harding Expressway.
Participants are asked to bring their own candles and flags will be distributed.
l A candlelight vigil will be held at the 9/11 Memorial Garden at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village.
The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and includes music, poems and individual reflections. Participants are asked to bring American flags, candles or a flashlight and their own lawn chairs.
l Two Sept. 11 memorial ceremonies are scheduled for the Rockaway Tribute Park on Beach Channel Drive and Beach 116th St. The first event starts at 8:30 a.m. to mark the time when the planes struck the World Trade Center towers. The names of all Rockaway residents who died in the attack will be read.
The names of victims will be re-read during another ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
