The Long Island City Buisness Improvement District wants to grow.
The nine-year-old organization is seeking to more than double its area, with an ambitious plan that would cover an additional 200 merchants.
Reps from the Long Island City Partnership, which runs the existing BID, said the idea was proposed by businesses and landlords in the potential expansion area.
“It’s very important for people to understand that this is an effort that originates out of the stakeholders,” said Elizabeth Lusskin, the president of the LIC Partnership.
The new potential BID would cover the triangle where Jackson Ave., Vernon Blvd., and 44th Dr.
The fees that will be required for properties in the new area if the proposal passes would most likely be less than a $1,000 a year, Lusskin said.
The LIC Partnership is currently conducting surveys of stakeholders in the area to determine various needs. Any proposed expansion would have to be approved by a vote of area landlords and merchants.
