NEW YORK CITY — Wednesday afternoon’s snow could just be a teaser for what’s to come.
The National Weather Service is warning a nor’easter could hit late Friday night, threatening to dump more than 6 inches.
Light snowfall starting Wednesday afternoon will bring less than an inch of accumulation, NWS spokesman Joe Pollina said.
The Sanitation Department released a storm warning beginning at 2 p.m. The city is preparing its plows, salt spreaders and tire chains for the snow that could make for a sloppy evening commute.
Friday night’s storm is causing more concern.
“There’s a potential for it to be a significant snowfall event, 6 inches or greater in a 12-hour period,” Pollina said. The snowfall would be heaviest Saturday afternoon, he said.
Temperatures are expected to hover in the low 30s through Saturday and creep up to high 30s on Sunday.
