New Dorp finished its season with a 13-5 victory over Long Island City Wednesday.
Dean Orofino (nine saves) helped the Central Cougars keep the opposition off the scoreboard in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead.
A five-goal second period helped New Dorp stretch its lead to 7-2 at the break, one they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
The Central Cougars would outscore LIC 6-3 the rest of the way.
“We did what we had to do in all four quarters,” said New Dorp coach Jonathan Zagare. “We took care of business and were able to finish on a positive note.”
Peter Potenza (four goals, assist) and Dawa Winn (five goals) led the Central Cougars offensively.
New Dorp finishes its regular season with an 11-5 record in PSAL play. The Central Cougars will take on Monsignor Farrell Friday in the Staten Island Shootout.
“We’re clicking at the right time right now,” said Zagare. “We didn’t finish with the record that we wanted, but that’s what the playoffs are for.”
