Now this makes sense: one of the most prolific architects in the cityKarl “Hot Karl” Fischeris designing a new residential building in one of the New York that is most busting at the seams with new development. That would be Long Island City, and New York YIMBY has the first rendering of the new 16-story, 166-unit structure that will replace the one-story warehouse formerly located on the 28th Street site, just northeast of the Queens Plaza subway stop. Unlike the tubular, incongruous modern addition Fischer added to the the neighborhood’s stately McKim, Mead White power plant back in 2008, this building is actually industrial-looking, with a facade that looks like brick and big casement windows. (Seriously, the man is busy, and this design looks like one of the best of the lot.)
YIMBY suspects the apartments will be rentals, given their smallish average size of 763 square feet. Construction is just getting underway, with scheduled completion in 2016.
