Long Island City is getting a new, rather generic 20-story hotel, and NY YIMBY has the first rendering for the project.
Express Hotel, as it will be known, is designed by Forest Hills-based architecture firm ARC Architecture and Design and will have 200 rooms when complete. The ground and first floors will have space for retail, a conference room and a dining hall, according to NY YIMBY. Rooms will be located on floors three through 19 with seven to 14 rooms on each floor. The top floor will feature a gym and a roof deck.
The hotel’s location, sandwiched between the borders that make up Long Island City and Sunnyside, is far from ideal. The hotel at 52-09 31st Place sits adjacent to Calvary Cemetery, just a couple of blocks away from a Fairfield Inn, and not too far away from Newtown Creek. But when have polluted creeks held developers back? Express Hotel will also sit right across from Silvercup Studios, so a celebrity sighting or a chance to appear as an extra in a production might be one of its biggest draws.
Developer Delwar Hussain has not yet received work permits to start construction, but the plan was approved in January. The garage that formerly stood at the site was razed last month, as per YIMBY.
