Long Island City’s long-vacant Apple Tag Label building is about to get a bright green makeover. Alma Reality Corp recently announced that the empty 213-square-foot shell will soon be transformed into a LEED-seeking tower with retail and office space, topped by an expansive rooftop park.
The five-story building, located at 30-30 Northern Blvd, will be transformed into a vibrant seven-story commercial complex, built to LEED Gold specifications. Although the plan is to basically gut the entire building and rebuild with two new floors added, the original iconic Apple neon sign will be staying remain, albeit with a bit of refurbishing.

According to the NY Daily News, the developers estimate that the building will open in early 2018. For now, the company is seeking potential tenants in the form of tech firms and commercial brands. Additionally, there are tentative plans to bring a university campus to the building in 5 years.
Peter Kosteas, commercial property manager of Alma Realty, explains that Long Island City is the perfect place for such an ambitious project. “We are investing in this community because Queens is our home and we believe strongly in the neighborhood.”
“In a matter of months, the building will become home to what we envision as a world-class group of tenants who will enliven and enrich the community as well as provide further economic development to positively impact the whole area,” Kosteas said.
