Emergency
crews battled a five-alarm fire at a woodworking shop in Long Island
City, Queens Wednesday evening.
The
FDNY says the fire broke out early Wednesday evening in a building
located at at the corner of Queens Boulevard and 37th Street.
The
fire sent smoke billowing over LIC and East River and could be seen
from Manhattan.
Officials
said 250 firefighters were called to the scene.
“It’s
a mill workshop, so it had a lot of wood, had a lot of lacquers,
thinners, paint in the shop, which led to a quick fire spread,”
said FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard. “The shop was closed
at the time, so we don’t anticipate anybody being in there.”
Officials
say four firefighters suffered minor injuries, and no civilians were
injured.
The
fire was declared under control just after 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.
