As the Citi Bike program prepares to expand in western Queens, the Department of Transportation is looking for community input where to place the bike stations.
The DOT and Community Board 2 will host two community workshops next Thursday, March 23 to give community members a chance to offer input on the best locations for the new bike stations that will be added this summer, said a DOT spokesperson.
The workshops will be held at CUNY Law School at 2 Court Square in room 301 on the third floor, one beginning at 6 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m.
According to the spokesperson, the DOT is planning to add about five to 10 additional Citi Bike stations throughout CB2, which already has 13 stations in Long Island City. The additional stations are expected to be in Long Island City.
The department is also planning on adding about 55 to 60 stations throughout Astoria in Community Board 1. DOT held two community planning workshops
in CB1 last fall.
“These workshops are an essential part of DOT’s planning process for Citi Bike and help ensure that the system will work for local residents and employees, as well as increase the density of existing stations in the area – improving the transportation network,” the spokesperson wrote in an email.
