As part of City Hall in Your Borough week, Deputy Mayor Richard Buery and NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) Commissioner Bill Chong joined Modell’s Sporting Goods representatives and Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) participants for a tour of the Modell’s Sporting Goods store in Long Island City. For more than 20 years, Modell’s has been one of the largest private sector employers for SYEP, with 570 young people working in nearly 50 stores across the city this summer. With 170 participants at 11 worksites, Queens has the largest number of young people working at Modell’s.

Young people are hired to work in different areas, such as customer service, as sales associates, stock/ inventory clerks, and data entry/technical aides.
