Kids from PS 111 (37-15 13th Street) after previous supply drive
August 10, Staff Report
Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Sunnyside) launched his eighth annual back-to-school supply drive this week.
From Aug. 8 through Sept. 5, residents are being asked to donate backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, calculators and rulers. The items can be dropped off at Van Bramer’s District Office at 47-01 Queens Boulevard (Suite 205) or at any of the Queens Library branches in his western Queens district.
The supplies will be distributed to students in need throughout Sunnyside, Woodside, Astoria and Long Island City at the beginning of the school year on Sept. 7.
“No child should have to go to school without the supplies they need to do their best,” Van Bramer said. “With the upcoming school year fast approaching, many families in our community struggle with the cost of supplies that are required and have to make tough choices that could leave a child without necessarily supplies like notebooks, a backpack, or a calculator. Each and every child deserves to walk into school with the dignity and confidence that comes from a full backpack.
